Welcome to a practical course for building confidence with English in everyday life, study and work. Across 25 focused modules, you will practise how to understand what people say, read useful information and write messages that other people can follow.
Modules 1–8 focus on Speaking, Listening and Communicating. You will work on listening for key points, asking questions, answering carefully, sharing ideas, supporting a view and taking part respectfully in discussions. You will also explore how to adjust your language for different people and situations.
Modules 9–18 focus on Reading. You will practise finding main ideas and details, comparing texts, recognising facts and opinions, using headings and reference tools, understanding specialist words and using punctuation to support meaning. You will also consider how language and images can guide a reader.
Modules 19–25 focus on Writing. The topics include everyday spelling, punctuation, grammar, clear sentences, paragraph organisation, suitable formats and choosing the right amount of detail for a reader and purpose.
Each module is designed around practical English situations and original explanations, examples, practice activities and self-checks. You can use these to notice what is working well and identify skills you may want to practise further. The course is organised by skill area so you can build understanding step by step, without assuming that everyone uses English in the same way or for the same reasons.
You will encounter fresh, everyday examples rather than copied assessment materials. Activities are intended to help you apply English choices in context: who needs the information, what they need to understand, and how your wording, organisation or response can make that clearer.
This learning content is preparation and practice; it does not itself award a qualification or replace required formal assessments. In particular, participation in these learning modules is not the required speaking, listening and communicating assessment. Formal assessment arrangements are separate.
Approximate guidance only: pass boundaries vary by assessment version. This guide covers Reading and Writing only; it does not list a Speaking, Listening and Communicating pass boundary.
| Assessment | Total marks | Approximate pass boundary |
|---|---|---|
| English Level 1 Reading | 30 | About 65% |
| English Level 1 Writing | 36 | About 58% |
