This course is designed for learners working on Functional Skills Maths Level 2. A 31-topic teaching plan brings together number skills, measurement and geometry, and the interpretation of data. The lessons are being prepared with original explanations, worked examples, practice tasks and self-check answers.
Develop your use of positive and negative numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages and ratios. Practise calculations, estimation, algebraic formulae, indices, direct and inverse proportion, percentage changes and finding original values.
Apply maths to money, budgets, stated tax rates and compound interest. Work with metric and imperial conversions, speed, density and rates of pay. Explore areas and perimeters, volumes and surface areas, scale drawings, coordinates, plans, elevations, nets and angle calculations.
Find and compare averages and ranges, estimate means from grouped data, and interpret scatter diagrams and correlation. Work with combined probabilities, tables and tree diagrams, expressing probabilities as fractions, decimals and percentages.
Read each explanation, follow the worked examples and try the practice tasks before opening the self-check answers. Write down your method, keep track of units and check whether each answer is reasonable in its context. Use a calculator where the activity allows one, and practise non-calculator methods where indicated.
The teaching plan follows the Level 2 topic coverage in the supplied specification. Broad skills are divided into focused lessons to make 31 teaching modules; this is our course structure, not a claim that the specification has 31 numbered Level 2 topics. The materials are original revision and learning support, not official awarding-body questions or an official assessment paper.
